Organic Chemistry, "Form", Part 23 - An Introduction to Amines

Greetings,

This post is a brief introduction to another important class of compounds; the amines.  The amine functional group consists of a nitrogen atom bonded to a pair of hydrogen atoms.  The amine group can be attached to any carbon atom of a hydrocarbon chain or ring system.

Amines are very important components of living systems.  They are part of amino acids which are the basic building blocks of proteins.

The amine functional group has the condensed formula; R-NH2, where R represents the rest of the molecule.  More details on amines will be provided in future posts in the near future.

As always, thank you for reading!
