Organic Chemistry, An Introduction - The Three "F's", Form, Function, and Flow

Greetings,

This post is the start of a series on Organic Chemistry.  This branch of chemistry deals with carbon and the compounds based on it.

I am introducing Organic Chemistry with a breakdown of the science into three parts; 1) Form, 2) Function, and 3) Flow.  "Form" explains the structures of carbon and its compounds.  "Function" pertains to properties and interactions of carbon compounds.  "Flow" discusses the changes which carbon compounds can undergo.  The following chart summarizes this discussion.
Note that nomenclature (aka, compound naming) is based on structure.  Further, notice the dependence of interactions on properties.  Finally, the changes under "Flow" are both physical and chemical.  The characteristics of changes (aka, Organic Compound Reactions and Physical Changes) are based on properties which, in turn, are a function of structure.  Subsequent posts will expand on the topics above, beginning with "Form" and ending with "Flow".

As always, Thank you for reading!
